…questions APC led FG motive on 30,000 security for Ekiti election.
The South West zone of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under the leadership of Olorogun Eddy Olafeso has condemned in strong terms the continued incarceration of the Ondo State chairman of the party, Hon. Clement Faboyede and the Director General of the Goodluck Sambo Campaign Organisation, Akogun Tokunbo Modupe. The duo was remanded in prison custody on money laundering charges related to election fund it received for the execution of the 2015 presidential poll.
Olafeso, while speaking in Akure, decried what he described as political persecution in the hands of the ruling party. He questioned the real motif of the APC led FG in probing the source of campaign funds while it’s own is shrouded in mystery. “It’s unfair and unjust for the APC to probe the source of the opposition parties campaign fund all in the name of fighting corruption while the party remains the bastion of corruption.” he said.
“We demand the release of these gentlemen. If the intention is to blackmail them, it has failed. We believe in them and their leadership. Let it be known we will take stringent measures via every legal means available to secure their release” he added.
The Zonal Chairman also used the medium to condemn the spate of insecurity in the country. “This government can’t lead a nation through propaganda. We’ve been given so many excuses and yet the menace keep rearing ugly its head. From a dead Gaddafi churning armed militia into the country to our porous borders. We don’t even know the next funny excuse they will come up with. We are tired of these excuses. The President has failed us. He either resigns or act forthright to tackle these menaces. The lives of every Nigerian is precious and should be jealoulsly guarded. The Deputy Senate President spoke the mind of the PDP when he asked that the security chiefs be sacked. One need to wonder if the President is afraid to take decisions as the current leadership of the security apparatus has failed woefully to safeguard lives and properties. Why is he still holding on to them?”
On Ekiti election, he questioned why 30,000 security personnel is needed to execute an election in such a small state. “At a time the nation is facing various degrees of security challenges, the FG is sending such a large number of security personnel to cover an election of just 16 LGs. It’s baffling. Will there still be report of more killings in Plateau if 30,000 security men swarm the State? What are the priorities of this government? Is this aimed at enforcing the federal might Fayemi bragged about to rig the election? They should be rest assured they will fail woefully as the masses will resist this”______________________________________________
