Defection Rumour, Lagos State Governor Ambode Speaks. -TheWailersNG

The executive governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has come out to address the news of his planned defection from the ruling APC to other parties over some disagreement with the National Leader of the Party, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Earlier in the week, the news of his defection to the newly registered political party Action Democratic Party (ADP) was on social media, a call to a senior member of the party to confirm the development proved abortive.

The defection news again went viral earlier today that Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, is seriously considering defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or another party over some purported grievances has been dismissed as untrue.

“Not true,” the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan, told our reporter this evening when asked to confirm the veracity of the reports.

A number of online platforms (not Wailersng.com) had earlier today, Friday, August 31, 2018, reported that Governor Ambode was meeting behind closed doors with his aides preparatory to dumping APC for PDP or ADP.

Bamigbetan who dismissed the rumor, that if at all, Ambode want to defect, it won’t be unreasonable party like PDP tainted with bad image of corruption, he said further that Ambode remains a committed member of APC, that such malicious propaganda can only be figment of the author’s imagination.

There have been unconfirmed reports that the Governor may not be enjoying the best of relations with his political godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a result of which the latter advocated direct primaries to select APC’s candidates for the 2019 general elections.

A similar news trended during the run down to 2011 elections when rumor emerged that the then governor, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola was about to be denied a ticket for second term, it went viral like a wild fire that he was considering dumping the ACN for Labour party then.

The proposed model, which political analysts said might have robbed Ambode of the ticket for re-election, was however rejected by the APC National Working Committee (NWC) which during Thursday’s meeting in the Federal Capital, Abuja, approved it only for the presidential primary election and retained indirect primaries for other positions.
