According to sources privy to the much publicised meeting, Governor Ambode was in the villa for about 20 Minutes on Thursday and was with the President for about 11 minutes.
Our reporter gathered that the meeting was very brief because the agenda was known before hand and the President already had a position because of what our source described as ” the reluctance of the President to be drawn into local politics “
The source explained that ” Mr President knew why he was coming to see him. The same President had spoken with Asiwaju over the issue before now and other people around him as well, so there was a position already because the President had been advised not to dabble into local politics so the meeting was very brief”
It was learnt that the President refused to commit himself before the governor but only asked him to go and find the means to sort things out with the people in the party and the leaders working against his second term.
While waiting to be ushered in to see the President, Governor Ambode took out time to interact with the aides on ground and secured their sympathy over the issue.
It was further gathered that the Governor had an idea what was going to be the outcome of the meeting with the President before the meeting proper as he was said to have been whispered into by one of the men sympathetic to his course within the President’s environment about the outcome of previous meeting with the president and those he consulted on the issue.
He was briefed shortly before meeting the President that the President had conducted an independent investigation and discovered that it was him against the party and not Asiwaju Tinubu as it was originally portrayed.
As if buoyed by the cold shoulder Ambode received from the Presidency, the Lagos All Progressive Congress remaining candidates, Jide Sanwo-Olu and Femi Hamzat are at the party secretariat in Abuja for today’s screening exercise, having obtained and submitted their forms to contest the primary election along side the incumbent Governor Ambode due for the end of this month.
Governor Ambode has been in Abuja for sometime trying to convince people of influence to wade into his case with his chapter of the party.
The Lagos chapter of the party had ruled in favour of direct primary, scheduled for Saturday 29th September, 2018.
As it stands, the two options available for Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is either to bow to the pressure and step down for Mr Babajide Sanwoolu or seek the ticket of another political party if at all he has the capacity to face APC head to head because, his chances of clinching the ticket in APC is very slim.
